LEGO INDIANA JONES: THE ORIGINAL ADVENTURES (XBOX 360)

A brand new Indiana Jones movie doing the rounds means a new Lego Indiana Jones game chasing close behind it. No wonder all my little boyband chums are racing around with huge smiles on their faces.

To be honest it always seemed a mad idea. A game based on an adventure film using miniature characters made out of Lego bricks? Who on earth would want to stick that on a screen and spend hours and hours playing it? Me me me me me! And about every boy I’ve winked at over the last few weeks.

It’s amazing how quickly you adapt to the stupidity of the theory as you become absorbed by the Lego depictions of Indy and all the other favourite characters and get involved in the point-scoring adventures approximating to the big screen. There are lots of puzzles to solve, treasure to find, secrets to uncover, mysteries to unravel as you follow in Indy’s footsteps being careful to avoid the traps that festoon the screen.

As well as being a belter of an action game, it’s very funny too. None of the action from the new Kingdom of the Crystal Skull movie in this game – that’ll doubtless be along soon – but it pieces together adventures from the three preceding films, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade, following the format in the comparable Star Wars games. It’s all toned down, of course, with the really violent stuff of the movies removed and replaced by fun items, so gather up all the little cousins and let her rip.

You have the capacity to customise the characters and develop their personalities as you go on your travels, collecting points and interacting with the hazards and environment encountered en route. You also get the chance to re-live some of the movies’ most famous scenes – the fight on the rope bridge and escaping the runaway boulder among them.

The most fun you can have with a pint-sized model of Harrison Ford…
