"OH MY LIFE" by Beth Rowley

What with Duffy and Adele and Amy Winehouse and oooh, loads of others, not to mention the rejuvenated Girls Aloud, you’re spoilt for choice in the babes in music department at the mo. I mean, we’re talking babes who can SING. And that’s just in the UK…if we start investigating the hot totty circulating on the American R&B scene we’ll be here all night.

Anyway, add Beth Rowley to that list of gorgeous Brit babes who can warble better than most…AND write intelligent songs. Her voice isn’t quite as rich or rootsy as Duffy, Adele or Amy and her songs are more traditionally poppy, but there’s nowt wrong with that, is there? Not when she delivers them with such sassiness and assurance.

Believe it or not Beth was born in Peru but as she was brought up in Bristol and is a hot-looking blonde, the babeboss has firmly instructed me he’s claiming her as a Brit. There’s a startled windswept look about her, as if she’s just guiltily tumbled out of bed and doesn’t know what all the fuss is about. Making sexy, moody music with catchy choruses and sharp lyrics may have summat to do with it, Beth love.

She’s 26, draws on many influences, including jazz, soul and pop and it shows. The accomplished variety of her style has been winning plaudits from the serious critics as well as those attracted by her feminine charms and her debut album Little Dreamer has already gone Top 10 in the UK. Promoted by a rather snazzy vid that sees the mop-haired Beth elegantly sliding in and out of various random scenes, the single Oh My Life is a bright and breezy slab of poppery that’s a cut above the normal nonsense that attacks our ears. She even has a song Careless Love in the Sienna Miller/Keira Knightley movie The Edge Of Love.

This babe is here to stay…
