I’ve walked to the South Pole and back three times and fathered an entire football team I’ve been waiting so long for Leona Lewis to be launched on an unsuspecting world. Come on, LEONA LEWIS! Even Simon Cowell – who’s a bit of a prat but does know something about star quality – said that Leona Lewis was the greatest talent he’d ever seen on any of his shows when she won X-Factor in 2006 and she was compared by the judges to Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston and Christina Aguilera.She had the 2006 UK Christmas #1 with a cover of Kelly Clarkson’s A Moment Like This which outsold the whole of the rest of the Top 40 combined, stayed at the top for a month and scored even more downloads than Gnarls Barkley’s Crazy. Since then? Diddley pip. I’d thought she must have renounced showbiz and become a nun or something or perhaps Simon Cowell had her locked away in his attic. Well, if he has, he’s about to release her. Luscious Leona has, it seems, spent the last year in LA recording her debut album Spirit and getting transformed from the hottest babe ever seen on a talent show to…well, one of the hottest babes ever seen. She was out on the town the other night and boy, that girl SMOULDERED. We are talking serious babedom here. Frizzy-haired, pouting and full of confidence, Leona Lewis is finally ready to wow us all with her fantastic new single Bleeding Love out this month with her debut album released shortly afterwards. Now planning to settle in LA, Leona has certainly had a thorough grooming from Mr Cowell and his cohorts but it seems to have worked. "It might seem like I've been away for a while, but for my development as an artist we wanted something of real substance and quality and we've been able to get that by spending the time on it. It's been an amazing journey." Indeed it has, with a TV special Saturday Night Divas coming soon, pitching her with Celine Dion, Jennifer Lopez and Chaka Khan. She’s also appearing at the finals of the new X-Factor series and will, I’m sure, dazzle everybody else on the show into insignificance. Welcome back – at long last – Leona.
